NFPD Board Member Vacancies

The Nederland Fire Protection District is looking for 2 new directors to fill vacancies on their board of directors.

The board of directors consists of 5 members who represent the interests of the taxpayers of the district. The board is responsible for filing and managing an annual budget of approximately $1m currently, filing an annual audit and any other statutory notices, and ensuring that the District provides Fire, Emergency Medical and Rescue services within the district boundaries within the terms of the special district service plan. The board employs the Fire Chief who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the District.

You do not need any Fire or EMS experience to serve on the board.

The qualifications for being a director in the District are.

  • An eligible elector in Colorado (registered to vote in Colorado); and either:
    • An owner of taxable real or personal property in the District;
    • A person who is obligated to pay taxes under a contract to purchase taxable property in the District; or the spouse or civil union partner of a person who is the owner of taxable real or personal property in the District; or
    • A resident of the District
  • Not an employee or volunteer of the District

The period of the term will be until the next regular election, scheduled in May 2022. In that election the position will be open to the normal election procedure and the selected board member is free to run for reelection. The elected director at that election will serve the remaining term of the two posts, which expire in 2022 A director is free to resign at any time.

The position will be filled from the pool of eligible persons by the remaining board members within 60 days of the post becoming vacant. All eligible persons will be invited to speak at a board meeting to introduce themselves to the board for consideration. The board will select a new board member from the eligible pool of persons in open session.
