NFPD Board Member Election

May contain: vehicle, truck, transportation, and fire truck

In May 2023 the Nederland Fire Protection District will be holding an election for 3 board member posts that have reached the end of their term.

The board of directors consists of 5 members who represent the interests of the taxpayers of the district. The board is responsible for filing and managing an annual budget of approximately $1.2m, filing an annual audit and any other statutory notices, and ensuring that the District provides Fire, Emergency Medical and Rescue services within the district boundaries within the terms of the special district service plan. The board employs the Fire Chief who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the District.

You do not need any Fire or EMS experience to serve on the board. In reality, a broad spectrum of experience is desirable to bring diversity to the board. No previous board experience is required, although a knowledge of the operations Colorado Special Districts is an advantage,

Board meetings occur once a month and are usually straightforward business meetings lasting a few hours. Outside of the meetings contributions of the director's time is entirely their choice. The district employs a part-time administator who takes care of most of the administrative load that would otherwise be completed by a board member.

Serving as a board member is a great way to serve the community. The positions provide governance from the community over the business operations of the district. The board also supports the volunteers who provide an amazing level of service in our district.

Any person interested in serving on the board, or if you have any questions, please see the Elections page of our website or use the contact information below.
