Its Fire Prevention Week and the message from the National Fire Protection Association is “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape.”
Nederland Fire visited Nederland Elementary School and the New Explorers came by for a station visit this week. Our contact with the youth of our community helps our children understand basic fire safety and inspires their parents to become more fire savy. Modern construction techniques can leave you as little as two minutes to get out of your home from the time the smoke alarm goes off.
We’re encouraging Parents/Guardians to discuss with their children a pre-planned Meeting Place outside of their home. This important education means that your child is not hiding in their room or looking for their family inside the home, but rather going straight to their meeting place at the sound of a smoke alarm.
Please take a moment to review the following activities:
1) The Home Safety Action Plan will walk you through testing your smoke alarms and developing an escape plan with a Meeting Place.
2) Help your child use the Home Fire Escape Plan activity sheet to draw the interior of your home and your designated Meeting Place.
We always enjoy every opportunity to help educate and keep our community safe! Should you have any questions about fire safety, please feel free to contact us via email: email@example.com
